Car won't turn over...fan runnin with aux power

Hello all. I'm new to the forum but I missed work because my car won't start so I wanted to get some answers. It is 2am in the morning so the forum will have to suffice until I get some daylight where I can go some place. I want to preface this by saying I just bought a new battery for the car. So I get in my car, turn it on, and of course it won't start. There isn't a clicking sound but rather a sound like the engine isn't turning over. What is even more curious however is what happens when the car is just in auxiliary power. There is a weird buzzing sound up by my firewall/battery region, and the radiator fan is on and blowing, full blast. I'm not a car genius by any means but I do most of my minor work myself (oil changes, tire rotations, brakes, etc) and I'm pretty stumped. Is it a starter issue? some kind of electrical issue? Any help will be greatly appreciated. thank you

ok new developments in the case to any of those that cared. My neighbor came over and told me that the tree next to my car was hit by lightning, which might explain why its not turning over. I was going to check the fuses, but does anyone know 1. what i'm looking for and 2. where it is? i know its by my pedals but what specifically am i lookin for? should i disconnect my battery?

If it was a lightening strike, you will have to pull each individual fuse and look for the ones that are burnt. There is a fuse box under the hood just above the battery and one under left of the steering wheel. You will have to lay down on the floor and look up to find a black cover and pull those fuses. Those could all check out ok, the ECU could be fried, or relays could be bad, ignition could be messed up. The alternator fuse (100 A ) under the fuse box under the hood is probably bad. Do any of the instrument lights come on? Might be able to hook up a code reader, depending on how messed up the system is. After you mess with it, might be worth a call to your insurance.

If it is a short, you could go crazy looking for a problem. Did you get to check the alternator fuse under the fuse box?

I mean I found the wires yes, but there wasn't an easy diagram like the box under the hood, so I wouldn't know what I am looking for. I just decided to go with the insurance route, either way I was going to have to take it in so hopefully the adjuster smiles upon me and this is all covered through my insurance co. If not i'm gettin on here and tellin you all what a B.S. service they are
