I just started experiencing the recall's issues, and the dealership said it was ok
Okay so my 2008 Toyota Corolla had an ECU Safety Recall last year as part of Toyota's 2005-2008 Toyota Corolla ECM Safety Recall for 1ZZ-FE FWD models (Posted around Sept 2010). Anyways I took my car to the dealership a few months ago (May 28, 2011) to get her checked as soon as possible on the problem with the ECU (Note, the availability of the ECM units have just been available at May 2011, and I just got my letter that weekend). Anyways when I got out of the dealership they said everything was ok and I got an invoice/receipt that said the car was alright.
"WE INSPECT THE ECM PARTS NUMBER AND LOT NUMBER -INSPECT OK. VEHICLE ECU # NO APPLY TO THIS CAMAPIGN. WE INSPECT THE ECM PARTS NUMBER AND LOT NUMBER-INSPECT OK. VEHICLE ECU # NO APPLY TO THIS CAMAPIGN." (serious misspelling issues they have at the Toyota dealership here in Houston...)
Anyways, the problem of, stalling, refusing to restart, loss of significant power (only goes 10mph sometimes), harsh shifting, and check engine light have ALL just occurred last night. and I took my car to autozone this morning to grab the check Engine Light Code, it came up with P0607. Looking it up online, I've seen a few complaints from a couple Toyota Matrix's and some other Corolla's, resulting in the SAME code and exact problems.
I'm getting my vehicle towed to the dealership tomorrow on Monday while I go to school. My question is, would my car get serviced for free as my car's been damaged because of their defective ECU? I really DO NOT wanna deal with insurance here since I'm still a teen driver. and I do take really good care of my car.
Depends, how many miles do you have? Under 80,000 and you should be ok as the ECU falls under the emissions warranty. It is the ECU. Toyota gave a range of VIN and lot numbers and yours did not meet it according to their guide during the recall.
37700+ miles, last time I checked. But seriously this is EXACTLY what they recalled the cars for. Man I really hope the servicing (and towing, probably not towing) is free, I don't have much to waste
Yes, it should all be covered by Toyota. Generally, Toyota is quite good with customer service. This type of issue should not happen especially when recalls were issued for it so Toyota should have addressed it much earlier. Good luck with it.

You need to stand your ground and insist they replace the ecu. I agree with the others. This is a classic system of a ecu failure. Don't and I repeat Don't pay for Toyota's screw up.
My car was towed to the dealership while I was at school today. When I got out, I got the news it's fixed and she's ready for pick up. When I got there, the service was completely free (even the towing, yay!). So I didn't spend a penny today

The guy there said that my car does fall under the emissions warranty for that issue, but he also said it's part of Toyota's recall, because of the issues that occurred, so I'm safe there from the beginning. He said that it should had been replaced when I got it checked there a few months ago.

I agree they are really good with customer service, I even got some reparations for my trouble, didn't really ask for it, but hey free stuff! I'm just kinda disappointed how my car should have been fine from the get-go, I got my car checked just for that reason, so I could AVOID having to stall while going somewhere and having problems.
All and all, I'm happy. Didn't lose a penny, got some free stuff. My car feels a little different with the new ECU, but other than that I should get used to it soon. Anyways thank you all
