06 corolla CE idle problem?

Hi guys, i have a 2006 corolla ce which failed to start one morning. I turned the key and heard a repeated *clack* noise. I jump started the car and it seemed to be fine so i figured it was just a dead battery. I charged the battery, but it is dead by next morning. so i bought a new battery for the car and now it starts fine, but whenever i get to a stoplight or stop sign and the car begins idling, the RPM would drop to ~600 and my entire car would begin shaking like an earthquake, i also notice the headlights dim during the idle. Anyone had this problem before? could it be a bad alternator? help pls! btw, i changed the plugs with ngk iridiums in case it was fouled plugs or whatnot.

This is normal after changing a battery. I'm not an expert, but I remember my 07 Corolla taking about 15 minutes of "stop-and-go" driving to get the computer to learn the proper idle again. My wife's 02 Camry did the same thing. Drive it around a little more and it should go back to normal.

Sounds like a combination of the ECU being reset and the throttle plate being very dirty. Since the ECU reset it is thinking the throttle is clean and when it sends the current to the ETCS-i to keep it at idle it is not enough. In a small amount of time it should clear up. If it doesnt I would ask did you pump gas around the time the battery needed to be jumped? How many miles and what is the condition of the plugs? Have you ever cleaned the throttle body? It may be as simple a tune-up.

i did pump gas after i changed the battery, i was actually heading to the gas station when i first noticed the low idle. I replaced the plugs with some NGK iridiums and air filter, drove it around town and the idle problem has been fixed. thanks for the help!
