Question Fog lights, how it works?

I have a corolla 2006, when i bought (1 year ago) the fog lighst no working, so i saw the box fuses and the ralay there was no.

So i bouhgt a new generic relay and fog lights new, but i have a problem, the fog lighsts its turn on all time, ( direct) the only way to turn them off is by removing the relay.

What happen?

the car have a interruptor hidden?

the relay is bad?

Terminals 1 and 5 at the fog light relay have power all the time (from the 15amp FOG fuse).

Terminal 2 goes from the relay to the fog light switch to the Daytime Running Lights module. When this is grounded it engages the relay. In order for it to be grounded the DRL module has to apply a ground AND the fog switch has to be turned on.

Terminal 3 goes from the relay to the fog lights themselves. When the relay is activated it send power through this wire to make the foglights come on.

Since your relay was missing I have to assume that either someone was messing with the wiring and created a short to ground on the wire for terminal 2 and they had to remove the relay to make the lights go off.

Since turning off the fog light switch doesn't do anything then the short is going to be between the switch and the relay. You'll have to trace that red/yellow wire to find the problem or rebuilt the circuit.

Where was your car made? Does it have a turn signal stalk with a switch on it for fogs? Or a button to the right of the steering wheel.

I'm wondering if someone put on a bumper with the foglights but they were not equipped from the factory. That would definitely explain why the relay was missing!

Maybe they jerry-rigged the wiring to make them come on...

Without adding a switch, they are going to come on all the time.

So you don't see the dial on the rim of the indicator stalk on the left hand side of the steering then?

If your car was made in Canada and came with the fog lights then there is where it should be in 100% of the cases.

My 07 Corolla didn't come with fog lights. I bought a kit from eBay that included a switch for the dash where a blank is, all the wiring, relay & lights for less than $50.

I've seen relays stuck on before. Is one of the other relays the same? You could try swapping them out and seeing what happens.

You should be able to swap the A/C Mag Clutch relay to test the operation. I have a ton of those Toyota relays that i pull from junkyards when I go.

You really need to post pictures of:

Your turn signal switch
Your fuse and relay center in the engine compartment
Your front bumper
