Question Removing charcoal canister (EVAP line hose stuck!)

My vehicle: 2004 Corolla S.

I'm attempting to fix a p0446/p0442 and was attempting to remove the VSV on the charcoal canister to test it out. However, when I tried to remove the screw holding the VSV on it started to strip out, so, I decided I would have a go at dropping the canister for better access.

I started disconnecting everything but when I got to this hose pictured below, I could not for the life of me get it off...

The instructions in the manual I'm looking at read:

(1) Pinch portion A.
(2) Pull out the connector.

It seems like the tabs I'm supposed to pinch together are a bit broken: the ends of the tabs just flex back and forth.

Can anyone give me any advice on removing this guy? I'm concerned I will damage the hose. If that happens is it very difficult to replace?

Thanks in advance for any help!

(in my quest to get rid of the codes, I've already replaced my gas cap and tested the valves up front by the air filter)

You just have to play with it a bit more. Try pushing the line inward (towards the canister) and then pinching the tabs together.

Sometimes I'll use a pair of hose pliers to grab the mechanism in the square holes as well.

There's an art to it...

Yeah! I saw those holes and I was dreaming I had some pliers like those. (Not realizing that something exactly like them actually existed.)

I was afraid art was involved.

I appreciate the help... If anyone thinks I'm on the wrong track for these codes I'd be glad to be set straight..

Thanks again.

Harbor Freight has those hose pliers for a decent price. They sell them in set of different size/lengths.

Pinch the tabs together while trying to rotate the connector back and forth to break the bond. Some penetrating fluid like WD40 may help by lubricating it and rinsing out any grime.
