03 Corolla heating problem

Hey guys,

I've done quite a bit of searching around and I am still quite confused so I was looking for some clearification.

I am trying to fix my grandma's car for her. She is getting no heat coming through the heater at all. The temp in the instrument cluster gets to the middle fairly quickly and does not go any higher so I'm assuming this means that the thermostat works just fine.

The heater blower blows good and hard, just no heat comes out at all in any settings.

From what I understand, this could either be an actuator for the heater, or a door inside the heat that controls the hot and cold airflow?

Since the temperature of the engine stays in the middle, does this mean that getting the radiator flushed won't do anything, or is there still a chance it could fix my problem?

If it is indeed this actuator, where is it located? Is there a possible way of telling if it is defective, or I just find out by replacing it?

Same situation with this door, is it fairly easy to get at?

Thanks a lot for your help in advance guys, I really appreciate it, and I know my grandma would too. We live up in Canada so it's pretty darn cold right now and heat is a pretty nice thing to have ;-).

Regards,

Alex

This TSB relates to the vent mode control adjustment. The vent temperature control cable is close to it, and adjusted the same way by removing and reinstalling cable clamp. See if it's properly secured in place, and in desired position to get full control range. I set it so it positively slams shut at full cold setting for coldest A/C air possible in hot weather.
You may also check if both heater core hoses get hot (inlet hotter than outlet). They run from the engine into firewall. Coolant level in front plastic reservoir is ok? Original coolant should be replaced at 64000 Kms.

A lot of vehicles have a valve usually mounted on or near the firewall which cuts off the hot coolant to the heater core. This may be one of the valves you're referring to. Find and follow the heater hoses in the engine compartment and if there is a valve, check that is working.

When the engine is completely cooled down, see if your coolant is full up to the pressure cap, as well as at full cold (lower) line in the front reservoir.
Have you checked your vent temperature control cable adjusment? Do both of your heater core hoses get hot? Does your temperature gauge settle at horizontal position?

I have figured out what the problem was, there was a lever or something under the dash on the passenger side to the left that someone must of pushed with their foot but yeah i just pushed it back and now the heat works again?? weird lol but thanks anyways
