Question about having 04 Corolla clutch replaced....

Does anyone know what the estimated man-hours is for the 5-speed transaxle clutch replacement. I know I am going to have to have the clutch replaced soon, its starting to slip for just a second when you bump the accelerator a bit too hard when cruising at 65 in 5th gear. I don't have a clue if this is a job that is going to set me back $1000.00 or 2000.00. But it looks like a multi-day job even for a pro, looking at this in the Haynes manual. If I knew about how many hours of shop labor it takes, I could get an idea of what a reasonable price for the job is.

From what I remember, Toyota said replacing a clutch requires the entire transmission to be taken out so it could be a 4 - 6 hour job.

Labor is 8.4 hours so you're looking at about $800-1000 in labor depending on the labor rate of the shop that does the repair.

Take it to a shop that specializes in transmission repairs. They'll give you a break on labor since they do this all the time and are very fast at it. Make sure you get several estimates and compare prices AND warranties. Also take a few minutes to talk with the guys at each shop and make sure you're comfortable with them. I don't care how inexpensive somewhere is.. If they don't know their your car from a hole in the ground I wouldn't trust them.

Sometimes it's fun to play dumb just to see how they treat you!

This is one of the easiest FWD transmissions I have ever removed. The hardest part is the rear trans mount and remembering where to put tr grounds. If you are not willing to tackle it then maybe consider a friend who works on cars or like stated before a shop that does transmission repair a lot.
