Check engine light - car running fine

2007 Corolla CE, mileage 44600 kms, bought new, 20 point check and brakes replaced 2 months ago. Mostly city driving. Really cold in Toronto today for first time this year. Anyhow the check engine light is on and won't go off. Any ideas on what is causing this, how much repairs would cost? I don't know much about cars, and don't want to be ripped off.

Should I take car back to dealer or to local mechanic or to CAA service centre (in Canada Ontario) for a diagnostics?

Thanks.

It's still on warranty. Just have your Toyota dealership check it and the trouble code.

Even so without getting it scanned it's impossible for us to know what's wrong. Get some codes from a scan and we can go from there.

You may not have screwed down the gas cap tight enough on your last fill-up. Wipe off any dirt or rust in the mouth of the filler tube, wipe the threaded end of the gas cap.
Get someone to hook up a code reader and delete the error code to close the light. This may be the only problem! Don't get roped in for unnecessary repairs!
