Question 2006 corolla and flywheel question

Have a 2006 corolla CE, 78k miles on it. Got it used from the wife's grandparents who are hard on clutches, it is slipping pretty badly, so figure it is time to replace the clutch (at 27 I'm not a professional by any means, but have bumbled my way through changing 8 clutches 3 on my cars 5 helping friends out) I have always been able to get a Chilton or Haynes manual and figure it out...

My problem is that the manuals are all 2003-2005, looks to be the same body style, but I don't want to working of the wrong info. is the Chilton 2003-05 manual going to work for the 2006, as far as I can tell its 9th gen, if you know for sure it'll be the same for a clutch change that's mostly what i'm using it for (well clutch, fluid exchange to amsoil, and replacing the rear main seal while I'm at it)

side question, only really interested in it if it will improve gas mileage, but in my old Mazda MX-3 I got a lightweight aluminum flywheel and it actually gave me a little over 2 mpg improvement. But that was the V6 model and was more powerful than my corolla, don't know if it'll make any difference in my corolla, but if anybody has done this I'd love to know your results, if mpg improved or if it is just a bit more responsive (I'm not looking for speed, that's what my motorcycle if for, this is my daily driver which is an awesome car but i don't feel the need to get more power, 39 mpg hwy plus the good deal was why i got it)

nice link, will probably be useful, but I don't have a printer, and I like having a book out there with me to look at (no laptop) don't want to grease up my game room ... err i mean office for serious grown up things (like playing skyrim) going in and out looking up steps. I don't mind spending the money on a manual either so links are nice, but mostly wanting to know if one of those manuals will work on my 2006

I appreciate it went ahead an bought it on my break ( i work across from an oriely's. slow day so now I'll be readign this till closing time, thanks again

if anybody has any input on the flywheel I'd appreciate it, I'm thinking it is such a smaller flywheel i don't know how much less it'll weigh and thus don't know if it'll increase mileage much, so barring any testimonial to the contrary I'll be taking that to the machine shop for resurfacing when I take it out tomorrow

IMHO, if you can measure the difference in mpg after changing out the flywheel you probably fixed something else along the way. 2mpg is > 5% improvement. I highly doubt you could take enough weight off the flywheel to make that happen.

Racers lighten the flywheel for multiple reasons:
1. the engine rpms will spin up and down quicker when the clutch pedal is depressed which would allow you to shift faster.
2. the better the engine is running and balanced the less weight you need on the flywheel to even out everything.

Imagine how much weight you'd have to take off other things to get a 2mpg improvement. Just because it is spinning doesn't mean lightening it will make it it spin that much easier.
