no idea on dealer pricing but the serpentine belt tensioner often causes noise on this car when idling, and is a common replacement item. If it wasn't for the tensioner, I never would have replaced my belt in the first place.

Replace your belt with a GoodYear Gatorback # 4060740, wherever you go to have it done if you don't do it yourself... Toyota's belt will just start squeaking again.

Depending on the miles the water pump may be a good idea to replace. They are not really common or uncommon to leak. Somewhere in the middle.

I went over the thread about replacing it. I feel confident to do this myself. I just need to know if there is anything else to replace while the belt is out. Like water pumbs and the tensioner itself?

The belt itself can be replaced in about 5 minutes... My original water pump is fine at 146 K miles.

I replaced the original belt tensioner for a good Dayco # 89356 a few years ago when the original one started ticking.

Are you on your original tensioner?

Yes the original tensioner at 95k.

wow you have 146k on it? This for a 2004?

So basically you'll hear a ticking sound for a failing tensioner?

Yes, I'm at 146,000 miles on my 2004... It was common for 2003-2004 Corolla serpentine belt tensioners to be noisy and/or start leaking before long. The Dayco tensioner and puller assembly is a good upgrade from the original Etna... I'm surprised yours is still good.

The easiest check for a bad tensioner is to start the car, put it in drive, put your foot on the brake, and listen. Then have a friend press on the belt briefly with the side of something smooth like a hardwood dowel or a piece of pipe. Then listen again. If the engine sounds smoother with pressure on the belt, your tensioner is bad.

On the 1zz motor it is very common for the tensioner o-ring to go bad and leak oil. The serp belt can be done in a matter of minutes, also if it is a whining noise you hear, and see coolant on the bottom of your hood and on the water pump, and your overflow reservoir is low then you probably should replace the water pump.

I think you're referring to the timing chain tensioner, as opposed to the serpentine belt tensioner

Toyota upgraded the belt tensioner some time in 2007-2008 and then in around 2009 realized the tensioner wasn't so much the problem as it is the belt itself and reverted back to the old tensioners for warranty claims.

As for the water pump I would replace the water pump if you are up to it. I havent replaced mine simply because I am too lazy right now and I don't drive much. I would go with a new Toyota pump. Like I said they are somewhere in the middle for being an issue. I have seen a few fail with over 100K and some with under 100K. It isn't something seen everyday, but I also wouldn't want to have mine fail while I was driving or something. Just look for an crusted pink/red coolant near the pump to see if it has definitely failed.
