Canada When to Change Tires

I like to ask the forum what mileage is the required time to replace the tires.

I have a 2005 Corolla S, that i have had since November 2004.

Got it brand new.

Now have about 71000km on it.

What km or mileage should i be looking at to consider changing the tires?

I have properly rotated the tires.

What do you suggest

I drive in ontario canada, in 4 season, snow, ice, hot cold, rain, wet

There is no definitive answer. Tires can go bald at 20k miles, or last till 50k depending on the tires. If possible take the tire off, does it appear that your vehicle is only riding on one of the edges? (One edge will be smoother, less tread. How much tread is left? You can grab a small tool from the parts store to measure in 32nds. I usually swap my tires our around 3/32nds.

Change them when they're worn out and flush with the tread wear bars... I like my new Hankook Optimo 4S (Korea) 205/60-15 tires a lot, especially at such a low price. They're winter rated 4-season tires, good in all wicked winter or good road conditions... Previous Japan made Falken Eurowinter HS439 were really good too.

its like asking how long is a piece of string.

when there gone there gone
as said above they vary and it depends largly on driving style
i know people who dont get 5k out of a set of tyres and i average 55k
depends on what type of tyre you have also, soft or hard compound

Tire compounds harden over time, resulting in diminished traction in all conditions. 5 years is typically the outer limit for them. I've never had a set that I ran down to the wear indicators simply because they get too dangerous to drive on well before that.

Any vehicle purchased in 2004 deserves a fresh set of tires NOW. You'll be amazed at the difference.

When you get the next inspection done at Toyota, they usually measure the tread depth using a measuring caliper. That will give you an exact idea of how much tread you have left.

The minimum safe tread is TWICE the legal minimum. Stopping distance more than doubles as you go from twice the minimum to the minimum, so when you're at twice the tread as the wear indicators at any part of the tire it's time to replace them.

I have a set of Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S tires and they're awesome. Grip and handling like you wouldn't believe from this class of car. They also seem to be wearing well for a 45,000 mile tire...considering the hell I put them through on a daily basis.
