USA Clock Shorts Out / Hard Paper Route Mileage, Preventative Maintenance Advice

I have a 2005 Corolla S and have been putting the screws to it ever since purchasing it as a pre-owned in 2008 with about 40,000 miles on it.

It is now January, 2012 and it now has 77,000 miles on it due to a daytime job that puts about 250 miles a week on it, and a paper route job that puts another hard 150 miles a week on it.

My first inquiry is to find out whether any one else has experienced the clock shorting out periodically through out the day. I replaced the fuse about three weeks ago because both the radio and digital clock went dead.

The radio works fine but the clock started shorting out a few days after I replaced the fuse. The clock keeps good time but the filaments (?) are not staying illuminated.

Any body familiar with this problem?

My other question is to any drivers who have delivered papers using their car.

Are their extra precautions beside the routine 5,000 mile preventative maintenance check ups that would keep my car running in peak condition?

A few years back, I asked a similar question and have been good about adding fuel injector cleaners, and boosters, to my gas tank.

Please give me all you got.

Thanks, drd

Yeah, for some reason there is an issue with the clocks on this generation, that fix usually does it.

Attempted to fix the clock today in my Corolla S after watching the You Tube video u posted. Turns out my Toyota is a automatic as opposed to the manual transmission described in the video.

Any suggestions? I will see if I can find other You Tube videos that will be able to help.
