USA 2005 Corolla S Light in Trunk

1.) The light in my trunk is out. I replaced the bulb and it still doesn't come on. Any suggestions as to why?

2.) Seemingly right @ 150000 miles my Engine Light came on. I took it to Auto Zone and Advance Auto parts for the free diagnosis. I got a PO171.
a.)Air/Fuel Mixture system lean bank 1 (Cylinder #1 denotes bank 1)
b.)Low fuel pressure
c.)Faulty MAF/VAF sensor
d.)Cylinder misfire condition
e.)Faulty HO2S/AF sensor
f.) Large vacuum leak <---- All from Auto Zone

Advance Auto Parts said it was the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
Should I take it to the dealer.

I'm open for all any any suggestive solutions.
Thanks in advance.

Push the black button next to the trunk latch and see if it was stuck.

As far as the p0171, clean the MAF (not replace) and buy some carb cleaner and thoroughly investigate the intake manifold gasket by spraying it around the gasket. If the light came on at this recent cold snap, it is most likely the failed old Toyota intake manifold gasket. There is a TSB for a revised gasket. Numerous threads on this exact topic.

Do a search on this forum about intake manifold gaskets on 9th gens. The OEM gasket on these cars is made out of the wrong material and will not stay flexible and will eventually pull away from the block in cold weather, thus, you will have a large vacuum leak, a lean mixture, and in many cases an error code and other problems like revving when cold.

The gasket is relatively easy to change yourself if you are so inclined, and costs about $10. I would recommend replacing it, whether you do it yourself or have it done by someone else (fairly easy to do yourself...you only need 10 and 12 mm sockets).

Cleaning the MAF sensor may have temporarily solved the problem, but you will eventually get this code again anyway.

@MD1032:

You were right the light did come on again. I will be getting the gasket for the intake manifold and have it put on. I got a code for a potential vacuum leak. Should I just go ahead and get a new hose?

I'm not sure which hose you mean. The intake manifold has a couple hoses going into it, and there's also a hose going into the main air hose that goes into the TB that comes from the valve cover.

You might want to take it to a Toyota dealership or a shop and have them check for vacuum leaks. You can do it yourself using a can of carb cleaner by spraying around various parts of the vacuum system (starting with around the intake manifold gasket and working back) but a shop would probably know where to look first on this model of car if it has a place that is prone to vacuum leaks, which would be faster for you.

Personally, I'm guessing it's just the intake manifold gasket leaking horribly, but it could be anything. I do know that at least on my car (110k miles), the hoses still look brand new. When you buy a quality car, you don't have to worry about replacing things like that unless you drive in pretty harsh conditions.

The number one vac leak on this generation corolla is the failed intake manifold gasket.

Wink Intake Manifold Gasket.

I got my mechanic to put on my gasket today. He got the light off and I will post to see if it comes on again. I hope not. So far regarding this problem, for a remedy I've gotten the MAS cleaned and now the Intake M Gasket replaced. The noted problems before these repairs were low gas mileage and the Engine Light on.

From AutoZone the code came up PO171
*Air/fuel mixture system lean bank 1 (cylinder #1)
*Large Vacuum Leak
*Faulty H20S/AF sensor
*Cylinder misfire condition
*MAF/VAF sensor
*low pressure

I hope that changing that gasket is the remedy for all of the above mention.

If the light comes back on and I hope not, I'm still open for suggestions.
