door lock remote

I just got a 2005 corolla ce. I only got one key, and was told there was nothing special about the key. I was also told there was no remote for the door locks. It has power door locks, but no power windows. Now I look in the owners manual, and they say there's black key and a grey key, and a remote for door locks. I have the black key. I also found a site where I can get a door lock remote that you program yourself. Do all the corollas with power locks have remotes? There is a security light blinking on the dash at times. Do I have to go to the dealer to get another key?

You can still have power door locks without remote capability. Security light, depending on what package it was installed in, could be a dummy lamp. Example, on my Corolla - the security lamp was tied to a flasher unit keyed to the ignition - once ignition was turned off, flasher unit kicked on the lamp. My Corolla has neither keyless entry or an alarm system - but it has power doors and windows.

In order to remotely lock/unlock - you'll need the appropriate "brain" inside the car. Be it in the Toyota VIP alarm system or with their keyless entry system.

Most of them are port side / dealship installed - so you'll have to look around for the control module. Usually places to look are under the seats and up under the dashboard.
