how to change dash lighting delay

When I start my 2004 S it takes about 10 seconds before the dash backlight for the speedometer area illuminates. Is there a way to make this happen instantly so there is no delay? Thanks

This happens when you start it at night right. This is caused by the Light sensor detecting a low light condition and then communicating that to the gauges.

If you want it instantly you can simply turn the headlight switch to the ON position. It will bypass that and turn everything on.

yes it happens at night. So there is no way to turn on the dash more quickly other than to manually turn on the headlights?

I've found that on my '03 if I start it with the e-brake on then it takes 10-15 seconds for the dash lights to come on AFTER releasing the e-brake.

If I start it with the e-brake OFF then the dash lights come on almost instantly.

Try applying the brake pedal then releasing the parking brake and THEN starting the car and see what happens.

It's annoying to me too but have gotten so used to it it's not an issue anymore.

I suppose it may be possible to modify the wiring to get rid of the delay but it would be a PITA.
