2006 Corolla ECU No Label??

Hi Everyone,

I have been waiting for Toyota to mail me a letter to replace my ECU on my 2006 Corolla (Recall). I got it replaced once in 08, as my Corolla had a P2716 Code.

I took apart the glove compartment box, and looked at the ECU box, but there was only a clear protective film over it, and no label indicating the actual label. Anyone know if this is normal??

edit: I looked at the service detail, and the only thing I was able to find was the Part Number: 89661-02K21 (looked it up, but without the actual serial #, cannot tell if it is part of the recall).

Thanks a bunch!

The label with the part number and lot number is on the bottom of the ecu under a plastic hinge towards the floor. You pull down the plastic hinge and remove the 2 clips. When you look up from the floor you will see the lot number. On the 02K21 I almost always replaced them as only like 1 had a high lot number.

You're still looking above the ECU which is its bottom. It's mounted upside down. You need to look underneath ECU as seen from the floor after removing 2 clips and lower panel.

Being from Argentina I am sure he mean manual. Mechanical or standard usually refer to a manual transmission.

That may be the case if you're familiar with Guatemalan lingo, although both manual (with clutch pedal and gear shift lever) and automatic transmissions are in fact mechanical transmissions.

In fact a ECU for standard car can be used in a car with automatic transmission, just disable the module transmission.

I actually read wrong. He is from Guatemala. And the issue is that when used in everyday Spanish language there isn't really a direct translation for Manual when used to describe transmission. It is usually said

Mechanico-mechanic, Estandar-standard, or Cambio-change.

Automatic is always said Automatico.

You would have a check engine light on always as well as issues with wiring the neutral safety switch.

manual transmission (plural manual transmissions)
  1. (automotive) Mechanical transmission which shifts gears by the action of the driver's hand on the gearstick or gear lever, rather than automatically; a manual gearbox.
automatic transmission (plural automatic transmissions)
  1. (automotive) A mechanical transmission which shifts gears automatically response to speed and/or load, rather than requiring the operator to do so manually; an automatic gearbox.
