How Do I remove front rotors on 2007 Corolla LE?

I have read that on the earlier 9th Generation Corolla's the spindle nuts do NOT hold the front rotors in place. If someone could let me know if this is true on the 2007 before I get more extreme I would appreciate it. I have tried banging on it with a rubber mallet with no success. It does look like the spindle nut holds it on. Also, what size IS the spindle nut? Do you have to use a 12 point socket? It sure looks like a 30mm but a 6 point socket appears to be too small.

Thanks in advance for any help!

No the spindle nut does not hold it on.

If you are not going to reuse it. I suggest a big hammer and a block of wood against the backside of the rotor. If you are going to reuse it there is a YouTube video that shows how to remove a frozen rotor using bolts, nuts, and washers.

Also you can look at the face of the hub of the rotor. This might have 2 predrilled holes in it. If it does you can thread two bolts (I believe they are M8x1.25) and evenly tighten the bolts to break it free.

1> Remove caliper.. suspend it with a bungee cord so the brake hose doesn't get stretched or kinked

2> Remove pads

3> Remove caliper bracket

4> Rotor should fall right off... if not some "persuasion" may be necessary to break loose the corrosion holding it on

trade that rubber mallet for a 5 lb. sledge hammer to get the job done. Mine were seized on there pretty good and definitely took some "persuasion". Keep rotating the rotor as you are banging on the edge of it. Occasionally bang the outer edge of the rotor as well. It'll come off, need to shed a bit more sweat first.

on mine it took a hammer to it for a while, hit really hard, nothing, Sprayed some WD-40 on it, let it sit for a min, then tapped it with the hammer and it popped right off.

Thanks for the information.
I tapped on the rotor between the studs and then tapped on it from the inside with the rubber mallet as I rotated the rotor and it came off after about a minute.

Thanks again to all of you!
