Passenger Air Bag Warning Light

I have an issue with my 08 Carolla S. When the passenger seat is empty, the car thinks I have a passenger. The passenger air bag warning light will come on. Also the passenger seat belt will also chime on.

My solution has been to plug in the passenger seat belt. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I'm sure it's a problem with the seat weight sensor. It might be under warranty. Just gonna have to see the dealer.

Sounds like something is tripping the switch. I always have that problem when I have something with a decent amount of weight in the passenger seat, but if you say you have nothing in the seat, then I'm not sure what to say. I'm pretty sure the guy above is saying take it into the dealer to have them check it out, because that problem is not normal.

Yeah there's nothing you can do yourself except swap out parts. You need a dealership scanner to see what the Air Bag system is seeing to determine what the problem is.

Restraints and Emissions systems usually have a longer warranty than the factory warranty but only the dealer can tell you if this would be covered or not.

I took the car in. The dealership fixed it. No charge.

The sensor in the seat was out of calibration. I'm just happy the seat belt isn't chimming all the time. Thanks for your help.
