A guy at bobistheoilguy got this chart in an email from Toyota. I was surprised to see that Toyota is okay with using 0w-20 in any non-XRS corolla made this century.

Great link, thanks for posting. It looks like they are recommending 5W-20 for the 1ZZ-FE.
I will swap out my current 5W-30 for 0W-20 and see if it makes a difference in "fuel economy" as they suggest. If nothing else, I certainly think my engine would be happier on those 10 degree mornings with the 0W.
Ya I've seen this chart before. I'd still be inclined to stick with the owners manual. I figure why second guess what the manual says?
What's interesting is why does the 2012 rav4 v6 allow multiple viscosities of oil while the venza v6 for 2012 only allow 0w-20?

This is probably caused by fuel mileage requirments between these engines. The RAV4 comes factory filled with 5W30 so going to 0W20 will only show improvement. They will only recommend lighter and never heavier. The Venza and such come factory filled with 0W20 and thus they don't want to recommend a heavier oil and when fuel economy drops they be "responsible". The only one on there that doesnt make sense is the 2007-2011 Camry V6 being able to take 5W20 but not 0W20 (even though Mobil themselves says if it can take 5W20 it can take 0W20).
I run 0W30 in the Corolla since it gets very hot in the summer and 0W20 in the Camry. There is no reason I need a thicker oil when starting. 0W is always better than 5W.

What is the reason for not running the same in each?
