Reverse switch?

Hey fellow 9th gen's! My regerse lights are not working and i've done some research saying that if its not the fuse or the bulbs, it would be the switch. Now i have replaced the reverse bulbs and the fuse is good and i was wondering if anyone out there has replaced a reverse switch on a 5sp? Only once in a long while will the reverse come on when im in reverse but 95% of the time they dont light up at all. So any help or DIY's would be awesome!

"Using SST 09817-16011 (slotted socket), install the back up lamp switch assy with a new gasket (washer-included with new switch) to the manual transmission case. Torque to 30 ft- lbf."

You should be able to do it with a deep socket or box-end wrench slipped over with connector unplugged, not sure which size.
