Cool Trouble code testing

Greetings! I'm a new Corolla LE owner, and previously had a PT Cruiser.

On Chrysler vehicles, you can start up a system test and get the trouble codes (if any) to appear in the odometer display. This is done with a "key on/key off" sequence, 3 times.

Does Toyota have a similar method, or do you need an OBD diagnostic tool, or paper clip in the right spot?

Tom

What Year LE?
W/ the older models all you do is bridge the T1 and E1 pins on the diagnostic plug w/ the ignition off. Then turn it to the on postion and the check engine lite will flash the code sequence for what ever code is stored in the ECU.
Not sure about newer models.
I just plug a scan tool to them.

Cool Trouble code...

I have a new 2005 LE with auto trans.
My service engine light came on at exactly 3K miles, perhaps to tell me to change oil.
Since I'll be doing that myself, how might I turn off the light?
Do I need to buy a "scan tool" as you said?

Pull the stop fuse out on your fuse box and leave it out for about 10 min. Then put it back in. That should clear the code.
I would find out what code it's storing first.
