USA Corolla 03-up Cold Idle RPM Question

Just wondering if other Corolla owners 03-up have this type cold idle RPM's and if its normal? At startup in cold weather my Rpm's stay around 2000 for about 3-5 minutes till the engine warms up then goes down to normal 800-900 RPM'S...I ask the dealer about this and they said it was normal, my question is in very cold conditions is this bad for the engine at a cold startup to be running at this high Rpm's? Thanks....Raddman

The majority of cars I've seen/owned in the past 20 years or so do this. Our 1992 Camry and 2005 Corolla do this. Our 2004 Camry doesn't run quite as high though. The whole point is the engine wants to warm up to lower emissions and get the oil to operating temperature.

I Would Advise To Use A Very Good Oil (eg Castrol) To Reduce The Wear Of The Engine On Cold Starts!!

Perfectly Normal, it is designed that way, it aids in engine warm up, no need to put special oil or anything in there, same idea in years before the cars were so advanced people would rev the engine in the nmorning them selves to speed up the warm up process same I dea except the ECU does it for you. And ya nice pic.

Normal. Isn't it related to automatic chokes? At least that's what someone once told me.

Thanks for all the input guys, guess it is "normal". Still it makes me nervous revving on start-up at 2000 in -10f... Why couldn't it just go till warm up at 1500rpm's?

Wow!
Anyways, the catalyst needs the revs to get fired up sooner, reducing emissions during warm-up.

What do you want a picture of her naked on a bear skin rug? Be nice, Didn't anyone ever tell you that pitching tent in bed to much will make you go blind?
