05 Corolla starting problem

The key has been kept on a key chain with no other keys on it.I have read the owners manual multiple times. I know for sure that this problem has only occured after the car has warmed up.

Here are the links to the threads . www.corolland.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16860
and www.corolland.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16440 Also the Toyota Matrix has the same engine as the Corolla and it is having the same starting problems. www.matrixowners.com/forum/about31064-0-asc-30.html Also here is a review by a consumer about his 2005 Toyota Matrix tittled" Good Car, Bad Fuel Pump Assemby" http://autos.yahoo.com/newcars/toyot...2&trimid=14982

I spoke with a rep. at Toyota yesterday and he said if anyone has this problem they should contact Toyota Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-331-4331 so Toyota Corp.can track it.

Hi Vaipunk. This is not regarding a 5 second start problem. A 5 second start is actually normal. The problem with the 05 Corolla is that it take between 15 to 20 seconds for it to start and sometimes they turn off after on. Believe it or not the 04 and 05 Corollas have enough different parts that this seems to be an isolated problem for the 05.

If my 2005 Corolla *EVER* takes 5 seconds to start it will go into the dealership. It is probably the slowest starting car I've owned in 10 years but it definitely does not take that long to start. I would find that unacceptable in the 21st century.

It's not too hard to believe since only one part needs to be different for it to happen.

Maybe we can video tape the problem and show it to them.
Digital camera.(with sound)
I had it in my digital camera but it was a new camera and I was playing
with it and somehow got deleted.

I've been trying for awhile, but it only happens when I don't
have the camera with me.

I sometimes have had a hot starting problem with my 90 Corolla. I have found if it doesn't start immediately on first attempt I hold gas pedal down slightly and try again. It always starts without additional cranking when I do that. I assume that when hot either the injectors bleed down some or the fuel additives contribute to problem. You might try experimenting with different brands of gas. As for the dealers don't tell them you went to another dealer previously and nothing was found. They use that as an excuse to do nothing. If problem continues go to a different dealer and start all over.

LOL~!!! I would be happy if I had a '90 Corolla that started at all! (Actually I drove an '87 Tercel for 16 years and it *always* started without any extra cranking). We are talking here about an '05 Corolla that had less than 100 miles on it when it started acting up! 1,000 miles later the car has been in the shop a total of 9 days...and it was purchased on 12/29/04.

P.S. EMS you have been quiet..does this mean the fuel pump replacement is working for you?!?

I talked to the Service Manager yesterday and he has some feedback from the Factory Technical Specialist...but mostly ruling out a computer problem (Corollas produced in early 2004 use a different computer than ones made in the second half...but supposedly my Corolla has the "good" computer). The recommendation is that you get the General Manager and Service Manager involved. They can call in the FTS and maybe get some fresh ideas on the problem. (Although the "fresh idea" regarding my car was to replace the fuel pump....)

Sorry Kathy I haven't had much to say lately. My car has been behaving. I am watching it like a hawk and although it hasn't started quickly everytime it is worlds better than before. The most I have to crank is approx 2 - 3 seconds which I dont think is to bad. I hope I'm not speaking to soon but, besides the 1st bad day experience all has been well. Remember I'm not saying the car is perfect but I really cant complain with it right now. It starts worlds faster than it used to and I am happy. I will be going on vacation on Monday. I will be driving from New York to Florida and back. I'll let you all know how it goes.

I was going to buy a matrix for my wife but I didn't because it
has the same warm engine starting problem.
So yesterday I bought a 05 Echo for my wife, and guess what, my wife tells me
that she had problem starting it.

I am going to drive the echo for a week to see if it has the same problem.

Toyota, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!

That is unfortunate. I have been driving Toyotas for two years now (my previous 04 S and my current 05 XRS) and they have been nothing but perfect in execution so far. Just telling you that Toyotas generally do the job as well as anything out there. This certainly sounds abnormal.

1. Plugged fuel pump inlet
2. Faulty ecu

forgive me, I'm new to this place. hope i helped out though!
