Unhappy 2005 Corolla - can't remote start

Hi,

I have a 2005 Corolla LE, loaded with stability control, traction control, power everything. I got a Viper Responder VX791 (remote starter with alarm) to put into the car (done by a friend who does this for a living). He was able to put the alarm in and it works fine, but for some reason the remote starter won't work. He has the bypass module in. Each time we try to remote start the car, the engine would just grind for a split second and then stop. If we put another key into the ignition (either with the bypass module in or not) to the ON position, then the remote starter would start fine. Anyone has any idea why this is? My friend and all of his buddies (who all do this for a living) just scratch their heads in dismay after spending over 24 accumulated hours looking at this thing. They even took the whole remote starter out and put it back in part by part.

Is there some changes to the 2005 model that causes this? The guys say that usually Corollas are the easiest to install remote starter and alarm.

Could it be that the VSS is causing the remote start not to work? The keys are all chipped arent they?

I'm not sure if it could be the VSS or not. As far as I know (and I'm not an expert in the field), the VSS shouldn't be connected to the remote starter anyway. And yeah, all of the keys are chipped and we have the bypass module to bypass the chip in the key.

I have remote start installed on my XRS. The installer used one of the keys (I think valet) to put close to the ECU to deceive it that the key is in the ignition. My XRS is 9 months old and it works perfectly. Never a problem.

If the key has to be in the ON position for the remote starter to work, your friend might have wired something wrong. Check wiring again. Something needs battery power.

Maybe your bypass module is malfunctioning. The fact that the remote start only works when the real key is in the keyhole means that the Viper module is not reading or is getting a wrong reading of the bypass module.

I know that is too late to post this, but I hope that helps somebody that searches in old posts, LOL

if it starts with the key on the on position than the bypass is wired up wrong

IMHO I would take it to the place you bought the alarm... let them install it and figure out what the problem is if any. Granted that your friends might do this for a living... i do not trust free work because it always comes back to bite me in the ass. The smallest mistake on wiring the new cars with remote start will fry your cars computer and thats a pay check or two to replace that.
