Starter

I have a 1990 sedan 1.6L corolla that won't start. It is weird because it will start, but if i drive it for more than 20 Min and shut it off, it won't start. I have changed the battery, the negative battery cable, the positive battery connector, I have had two aftermarket starters installed, and still no luck. I am leaning towards the starter getting heat soaked but after it did it with the second one i installed, i have doubts. I turn the key and no clicks or anything.

If you're not getting any clicks I would check the ignition switch itself. Even a heat soaked starter generally clicks.

Run a temporary ground wire from the negative battery terminal to the block. If it starts with this arrangement, replace the negative battery terminal wire and when you do this run a permanent ground wire from the frame to the block.

u can also try running a temp wire from the solenoid wire on the starter and just direct connect to the battery + once the car wont start again, if it starts then its most definately something in the wiring or the key switch.

My t- bird's alternator was shot and this is what it would do... Have you checked the alternator?

I suggested the switch because I'm wondering if there's some jostling involved. But woodenhead's idea is a foolproof way to narrow it down at least that much.

Auto tranny or manual. Maybe a loose wire to the park/neutral sensing switch

Did you ever get this fixed? If so, what was the problem? I am having the EXACT same problem.
