Playing around with a All-Trac Sedan
I have a AE94 All-Trac sedan. Super reliable stable car, that was practically nothing for me to buy. $600 cash, with the taxes added on top. Super cheap to insure, and fantastic in snow. It's a deep red color sedan, with your run of the mill 4AFE engine and auto tranny with electronic over drive.
I purchased this beast with 213 k on the odometer and that was bought in December of last year. Since i only drive it for my jaunts to the mountains, and on the weekends, i have only put on 2000 k in the last 10 months.
Since I bought a sport bike in the summer and have a work truck for daily driving, i thought to play around and try and have a little fun with this car.
By no means am i trying to make this into a performance tuner car, and when i say that i mean no engine swap, no roll cage, no rally-esque modifications, especially since i have an autobox powering the wheels.
What i do want to do is basic enhancments that can make this car look that much better for those that have a passion for AE92 sedans.
Here lies the troubles i face.
The car has your standard FWD front end, fantastic, parts are of a plethora if i wanted them. But the car also has the AE86 rear end and suspension to boot. You Initial D fans hold your yelling and screaming for the moment.
So with these mismatched parts, comes the troubles of finding suspension to play around with.
My ideal set up is coil overs front and rear, but to set up the rear end for coil over/spring combo requires a little bit of over doing in regards to accommodating the parts out there available to the public. Due to the fact that i want to keep this within a slight budget it makes it slightly difficult. What i then have to do is find matching front and rear shocks, Which i found to be Tokico blues, AE86 rear, and AE92 fronts, then to match them with the EIbach Pro spring kit, again AE86 rear, and AE92 front. Then to finish the bouncer set up with some whiteline roll bars. I have a dealer in vancouver that sells the Tokico blues in pairs and the shocks in pair as well, making it cheaper than having to buy a complete set for both cars.
what i want to do is to have a staggered front and rear wheel set up, much like drift cars have, potentially a +25 offset in the rear so that the wheel lip "JUST" meets the fender and to then place a stretched tire on that, possibly 2 sizes down from the appropriate width. Then to match that with a +35 or +30 front wheel and stretched tire combo, but with the fenders rolled ever so slightly not to have rub. Then if coil overs were to be placed I'd then lower the car just enough to have the tire barely meeting the fender, give or take and inch till fender rub. I live in a very smooth area of Vancouver, and I only do highway driving to where i want to go. All this is a dream really since I have to settle for products that are already out there. I could go farther and have springs custom made, as there is a spring production company out in my area. But again, i don't know how reliable their springs they make are and who knows the cost?
