89 dx corolla question?

hi, just curious this is my first 4 afe engine and other cars before it are hondas, now my question is, i had my car running on idle open the hood and tried listening for noise none that i can hear different, no knocking.

open the the oil cap, and the engine oil sprayed all over me, had to put the cap back, the car runs fine, got it smog and pass easily, dont leak and dont burn oil, no oil in the radiator.

funny thing is i use to do this to my hondas and put my hand on top of opening and if i see any speck of oil on my palm i know that my valves needs adjustment,

do you think something wrong with my cylinder head, valves, do 4afe do this kind of stuff? just lucky the oil wasnt hot enough to burn me,

hope you enlighten me guys with all the experiences.

ROFLMAO...

Checking if oil flies out wont give you any indication of valve adjustment or the need thereof.

Take the oil cap off most cars when they're running will have LOTS of oil fly out.

lol espicially when one of the cam gears is right under the hole!

Your valves have a shim over bucket and basically you check the shims and if they are worn out of tolerance you replace them.

You're lucky that you didn't open the oil cap after the engine was really hot. You'd end up with some serious burns. Never open a closed system when it's running.
