C52 vs C56

Is there anyway to identify the C56 gearbox from the C52?

the C52 has 2 starter bosses (humps)..

Thats not a definite way, some C52's only have on.

depends on the bellhousing, cant remember if mine had one. I think it did..

i got both in my shed i can take a look i was trying to figure this out bacause the c56 is trash!

Just for clarification c56 as in silver/blacktop 20v tranny right????

1st gen silvertops had a c52, 2nd gen had c56.

The only rough giude I know of is to look above where the passengers side cv enters the box.
A C52 'should' have a black piece of plastic as a shield. The C56 has a smaller shield but its part of the alloy casting, and you cant attach the piece of plastic to a C56.

The only way to be sure is to sit down with the gearbox and a calculator, and work out the ratios.

The 3rd and 4th gears differ on the c56
