1991 Corolla LS

Hey guys, I'm new here.

I have had this awesome problems with my car ever since it was given to me.
it can smoke out small villages.

it's a 1991 White Corolla LS 4 door with a 4A-FE 234K miles.

I found a 1990 Corolla something with a 4A-FE like mine but with 132K miles and its an auto.

I was going to buy a car at a local dealer for parts ($350) to take the engine out of it and swap it with my existing one. plus take the door handles, turn signals, and a lot of other crap off of it to fix what is broken on mine.

my car:

After:

Accident:

and a bunch more pictures here:

how hard/long would it be/take to swap the blocks?

It seems that you have worn/bad valve guides. Toyota is notorious for having those go bad on older motors. A direct swap wouldn't take that long or cost that much for a car that old. You just have to look around for the best deal.

well like i said, I found a engine that has 132k on it for $350 plus the other parts I need fixed.

are there any guides on here that will walk me through a FE swap to another FE? or is it that simple?

If get to take a look at the Toyota manual, you will see why it costs more.

thanks, but since the accident, it's a tad embarrassing to drive, I tried to fix it, but it didn't help much, I was thinking of some serious modding to fix the front end. I do love the car, but the carpet have a bunch of dried mildew on the floor in the back at the feet of the two passengers, I'm gonna rip out all of the interior and hopefully the parts car has better carpet so I can shampoo it and get it over with.

bro, in your engine pics, it seems you have a distributor with detacheable plug wires. Would like to ask where you got your plug wires as I am having trouble sourcing them. Thanks in advance for your time.

well, in all honesty, the metal piece that attaches to the plug kept falling off on the orange ones. so I tried to take off the wires and wound up breaking one off, so I just bought a new distributer + wires and rotor for like $30 at AAParts

Exclamation

if you have an auto trans don't bother thinking about trying to make more horse power, as the trans will just suck up the extra horses.. besides...

you might want some good struts.., the ride is probably pretty soft with those miles on it...

also good brand of brakes,, but for adding horsepower.. I say don't bother...

if you have a good engine you are getting ready to drop in, you could have the head redone and new pistons, rings, bearings...

since it's already there...

if it's 5 speed... put a new clutch in before you drop it in...

you may end up needed some new halfshafts when you drop it in... as the old ones maybe worn out too...

as you can see it will cost you a few dollars jsut to keep it stock but a nice car..

it would be a shame to drop the motor in only to have these parts go bad soon after you put it back together..

IMHO

yeah, I have a stick. I was looking for a clutch on ebay, but they don't have one I like, but a friend of a friend has a bnib stage 2 clutch that will fit my car.

I'll be disassembling the engine before I drop it in, I want to clean it all of the way out, that way when the old motor dies, I can drop in a fresh rebuild with a new tranny+clutch+pistons+gaskets+cams

I do have a question, do they make a RWD conversion for the AE97? cause I put my car on a lift and it looked like I could fit a drive shaft running under the car
