Yep, 5AFEs definitely exist. Have had two of them so far. Got one sitting in the shed right now.

It's hard to find user manuals etc for them as that of engine is only available in selected countries, but the 4AFEs are virtually identical so just use a manual for one of those (Haynes etc).

How come it's always the super duper old puny threads that get posted in but the ones that have valuable information that many people ask about and what not don't get the same attention.... This is 2 years old!

And there is a 5AFE, only Japan... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_A_engine#5A-FE

Guys i own a 93' Rolla AE100. It has a 5A-FE engine. It has done only 58,000Km and recently i've changed the fuel injectors. But now the car seems to redline at 5500rpm !!! Even if the nail the gas pedal to the floor still the needle gets no higher than 5500rpm. BTW...the car sat in the garage for almost a year. I have changed the oil and added the necessary fluids. Wot do i do now ?????

hey bro, you can try two things...

1. replace the distributor cap and spark plug wires.
2. check the injectors- make sure those are not for the 4EFE- as the 4EFE is very common here and sometimes the mechanics get confused.

also, get the car to any good shop and get the engine flushed with engine oil- as your car has been sitting for a long time, you may have a sludge problem.

is it auto tranny? check the transmission fluiid.

let me know if you get amy improvements. but i'm pretty sure the injectors are at fault here.
