Canada Getting Crappy Gas Milage

This is my story
my 1992 Toyota Corolla 4AFE 85,000 km overheated split the rad seam
so i junk yarded a used rad and all was fine other then it ran a touch hotter
according to the temp gage then before

2 weeks later it over heated again , this time the rad held and it steamed from the over flow bottle ......but it also took out my head gasket DOH
dum ass me should have change the thermostat

long story short is i used to get upwards of 400+km(250 miles) per tank of gas before replacing the head gasket now iam only getting 300-325km(186-200 miles )

And yes
have installed allready
new sparkplugs ,wires, cap ,roter, fuel filter, timing belt waterpump
timing is set correctly

Hoping the xperts here had some good suggestions as to what else i could do to
getting my gas milage back up or even higher then pre head gasket replacement milage

thanks for your time

I'm no expert, but I just wanted to ask if you had checked the head for warpage, especially since it overheated twice (it is an aluminum head, after all).

Have you done a compression test?

Over heating can sometimes cause piston rings to break. If that happened you might be loosing compression, and therefore performance (power and or milage)

An indication of poor compression sometimes is a rough idle that you cannot adjust, but smooth running otherwise. But that would probably be one or two really bad cylinders.

The head gasket was probably the original problem, and the overheating and split radiator were just symptoms.

how exactly did you go about the 44 ft/lbs of torque on the headbolts...

Any other issues like going through oil and antifreeze still, the over heating you were getting sounds like what i got the second time my headgasket went.

When you took the head off did you leave the intake manifold in the car or on the head? Removed the carb or not? Other gaskets you replaced?

no have not done compression test ,it idles perfect , but i will do it just to
eliminate that possibitly

the original problem was a stuck thermostat which caused the first rad to split it seam when over heated

all was fine till it overheated the second time and blew the head gasket
which probably would not have happined if i had just change the thermostat

not sure what your asking how ?? with a torque wrench? or the sequence i used ?

yes all was fine when i replace the first rad , but after the second overheating thats when the oil appeared in my antifreeze

when i took the head off i removed the intake (fuel injection type ) and exaust manifold all together , i replace all gaskets that came in the head overhaul kit
