Ignition Timing 4 4AGE

wats the right timing for the ignition of an 4AGE and the best way 2 set it. Cause i did set it up almost close doing it by eye but when im starting march or when im running low rpms it bogs a lot. I already replaced sparks, spark plug cables and the ignition rotor but nothing.

Using a timing light... connect terminals TE1 and E1 of the check connector. The ignition timing is 10 degrees BTDC at idle with transmission in Neutral.

Disconnect the jumper from TE1 and E1 and at idle in neutral timing should be about 16 degrees BTDC.

did you remove the dizzy ? to set timing. find the slot on the crank an move it to the needle/0 on the engine... take your oil cap off an check for a slight indent/hole/mark whatever you wanna call it in the cam... this will letcha know your timing is in the right place... make sure your rotor is firing # 1 & give her a shot !

nope certaintly is timing..it seems the timing belt jumped or sum off but by just a couple of degrees..cause the car run great but when i comes at just starting 2 run i have 2 get it 2 a high rpm or when im running nd let go of the accelerator when it reaches a low rpm round 2000 it bogs nd stalls when I press the accelerator again. Plus i can tell because its misfiring nd u can hear it in the exhaust

4ag's are known for jumping a tooth on the timing belt and still running (poorly, but running).

you'll have to pull the plastic covers to check that.

there is a type of afm cleaner you can buy i hear it works very well that is most like the problem otherwise you might want to advance your timing a bit more...

Hi all, new guy on the block.

I'm having the same problem as Bando on the timing issue. It's an 88 GT-S. I just replaced the timing belt, due to shredding the teeth off the old one. I have matched the crank and camshaft marks per spec. I set the timing per spec and method but it bogs til about 2K rpm then lacks power until ~4K rpm.

I set the timing to 20Deg BTDC and it runs fine in all rpm ranges. Will this setting have neg effects on the engine life?

Have replaced cap, rotor, plugs, air filter, spk wires good to spec.

If the previous owner changed the cams( I owned her for 3mos.), will this change the timing requirements as well?
