another engine swap thread...

Hello,

months ago, I started to have problems with the little 2E engine on my corolla; I even posted here, someone pointed out it the head gasket. It turned to be that a relative who borrowed the car drove the car until an old radiator hose blew, and the car couldn't hold it more.

Well, it's been a year after repairs, and I'm sitting here with a unusable engine, got another mechanic who tore the engine apart showing extensive damage done to both the block and head, everything beyond repair. I can't find this engine, because it's old and nobody is buying points and carbs engines anymore. Suggested a swap, and he agreed that a 4E-FE or 5E-FHE would be good replacements.

Here are my concerns:
1. What other parts I need to work with this new engine?
2. this is a carb engine with an old Points distributor and no ECU, will my fuel tank work with this engine? what about tach and cluster?
3. I'm not afraid of the transmission lining up with engine, I'm sure they will, but what about the cable that went from the tranny to the carburettor?

The new mechanic said, dont worry, I'll handle all, and I'm confident he will, but I just want to preview what will be needed to see how much is going to be spent...

Any input appreciated

Jesus, no one here is interested on low power, N/A engines? event to give some advice? well, I went ahead, and bought a 4E-FE first gen, to replace the old 2E that was on the corolla. I didn't like the way the delivery guys behave with the engine, I think they broke some little things, or worse if something went loose on the engine, and fell. Here are pics of the one I got:

questions:

in picture #2 there are 2 little holes surrounding the little pipe, with cut hose, I dont know if these two holes carried a pipe, is this normal or do I need the pipes?

on the last picture there's a little rubber part, I dont where it goes (havent try hard to fin the place anyway) and the question is that if it is something important enough to worry about.

I didnt got the transmission, because I wanted to use mine, but the one that was mated with this specific engine, seem to have some connection to the harness of the engine, will this represent trouble for the ECU to not work properly??

old 2E didnt use a ECU, as said before, is an early model, it even used a point breaker type ignition. Any help appreciated.

you would have better luck asking in the Tercel/Paseo forums, as they came stock with 4efe's..... in the US the E series engines were never stock in a corolla.
