I have a 91 corolla that will start and run fine, but wont drive.
It was driving fine then all the sudden wouldnt go into gear (5 speed). No grinding or anything when you put in gear, acts same as being left in the neutral position.
I pulled part of the dash apart and can see the linkage moving from the inside. i still need to get a friend to help me check if its moving where it goes in the transmission.
I'll pay attention which way is easier without using clutch later on today
does it not drive in any of the gears now? or just 5th? if it's any of the gears... you most likely have either a bad clutch or bad hydraulics (master and/or slave cylinder).
just fifth: it might be your linkage... or you just lost 5th gear on your transmission (doubtful)

Ok i fired her up and went through 1st 2nd and 3rd using the clutch then again without. The shifter goes into position much easier using the clutch. I spent a couple minutes toying with it.
Still no motion though.
Would this mean i can rule the linkage out?
Check the fluid level in the master cylinder...if it is low and more then check to see if you can shift and move. If the fluid is low you might have a leak that is getting air into the system. Might be time to replace the master and release cylinders. I have my replacement parts and gonna do that when I do the clutch...and it is a little warmer outside.

if you can put it into gear and it still doesn't move, then your clutch is gone... It'll only be the master/slave cylinders if you couldn't put it into gear.
you can test the cylinders by having someone push the clutch while you look in the engine bay and see how far the slave cylinder pushes the clutch fork.
