ECU codes 89 GTS

Can someone confirm this. 89 GTS 4-AGE motor, I'm getting code 52 with key on engine not running and codes 51 & 52 running doing a code check.

The code book I have says 51 is something to do with A/C switch or TPS. I do not have A/C on the car. Code 52 appears to be Knock sensor but the Haynes book I have says knock sensors were not used until the 90 and up model years on the AGE's????

Anyone suggest a direction I should go about to solve these? The haynes book I have doesn't even show me where the knock sensor is located or how to test the circuit. Knock sensors are around $200 here, if they were cheap I'd just buy one and see if it fixes the one issue but I'm not until I'm sure it is faulty.

So it's looking more and more like someone has transplanted a Bigport (87-89) AGE into my GTS and running a 90+ small port ECU etc.

Other than the obvious ECU error codes for a missing knock sensor, what issues can I expect?

I don't like running this setup. Does anyone have a Bigport (87-89) ECU they want to sell?????

I forgot to ask, can anyone tell me the correct part number for the correct ECU?

does it have the TVIS plate on the intake manifold or is it just a ribbed manifold?

I don't recall seeing any ECU part numbers around, do a quick search on google and see what comes up.

Yes it has the TVIS plate and black and red lettering. I've been searching google for hours and can't find specific P/N for the 88-89 bigport ECUs.

Well I'm obviously still learning about these cars but boy what a car to learn from.

So far I'm thinking the car is a 90 as per vin with small port ECU and wiring harness after checking some specs on Club4AG. The ECU has three grey plugs, 26pin 16pin and 12pin and from what I can make out this is the small port 90+ AGE. Big port 88-89 ECU and pins are different correct? For the moment I can only read the last set of toyota P/N on the ECU which is -12580

SO if I'm correct someone has installed Big port 88-89 AGE in place of the small port, T-VIS and all.

Anyone know what I can expect performance wise and/or probelms from this mess since the ECU is not T-VIS aware etc etc?

if that's the case (don't have a smallport ecu anymore.... I think my only spare bigport ecu is an AT also, so may have a diff PN) then do yourself a favor and get a smallport, keeping this as a backup....

usually you can find a local company who will sell them for cheap.... recently had a JDM smallport delivered to my door with a 1 year warranty for $550

bigport redtop ECU for $25 from someone well known in the board and who would most likely ship it to you... Jesus christ what would you guys do without me.

FS: ae86 & ae92 stuff

Here's a full motor for $300 and in Ontario.

FS:gze intercooler, ae92 apex springs, ae92 gts/sr5 parts, jdm bigport 4age

Both of these are very current threads in the for sale section.

Thanks REN! I did see both posts but wasn't sure if the one was the Bigport red top ECU or not. I just asked and waiting to find out. In either case I'd probably need the proper harness for it or atleast the connectors so I can change out pins etc.

His car is an 89 GTS now with a GZE to GTE swap so yeah... it should work with the motor, but yeah I also wondered if the harnesses were even compatible.

Worse comes to worst, check out Dorikaze as someone there has a smallport for sale either in BC or AB so you could always buy that and swap to the proper motor.

Ya I'm beginning to think I might just wait and find a proper Smallport motor, they are suppose to be the better of the two anyway correct?
