you should look at getting a half-cut, those usually are more pricey, but come complete with almost everything you need.

as for which variant is best, you should look out for one with a 6-speed with LSD transmission.

UM...
UN-cut harness
ECU
motor/trans
axles
and all the ancillaries (alternator, water pump etc.)

but as with all motor swaps you will prob have lots of "little" things to replace or fix. being an older car i would get it up to par before performing any swaps... even your motor mounts prob need replacing and they are expensive!

i've been building a swap for a couple of years now (doin it right) and i turbo-charged just out of impatience. it was faster and cheaper since i'm still running stock electronics there were no engine modifications=cheaper

Its been done, won't be easy as there are no write ups, everyone that's done the swap never does write up.

I've seen a couple of articles on club4ag for AE86s but never anything on how to "do it right".

Come by www.phoenixtuning.com which is a website devoted to toyota engine swap discussion. Dr.Tweak even has a wiring service to help you out. He did my 4agze swap in my 94 and then twincharged it for me.
