I finally did it. I finished my 92 turbo corolla. Since last time I was on here I got the map sensor problem fixed by figuring out how to install an SAFC. I found some purple top 250cc injectors out of a 4age. I put a front mount on it with 2.5" ic piping then gave it a base tune. Today I took it to the dyno and tuned it. All in all, it made 159.43whp and 147.62ft.lbs on 9psi, but it was running really rich at 9.9 on the air/fuel ratio so Im testing my luck and I turned it up to 12psi and it made 189.56whp with 177.67ft.lbs. So to everybody out there, the 4afe can pack a punch for the size it is.
I am running a TDO5H 14b off of a first gen dsm. My wife just bought a printer/copier that I will be able to scan pics onto the computer, but I still need some cable to hook it up so hopefully by tomorrow.
well... I haven't been able to upload pics yet, because Ive been busy fixin the rolla. My luck didnt last too long with the 12psi
The boost piping from the turbo to the intercooler blew off and right after, the psi spiked to like 15 or 16psi and practically blew up the map sensor. Tomorrow I am going to have to get another map from the junkyard. The auto store wants 267.00 so i said screw that. so when I get it done and if there is enough light out I will take pics and post them.
HELL YEA we are gonna have to start a following...:P
your motor is totally un-molested stock right? how many miles etc.
what brand did you go with? i was thinking about getting a Neo so i can put the 270's back on! but 12psi SHEESH that must be scary you should pull some weight off !
Yea the motor is bone stock I dont even know what internals it has...yet It has 207,000 miles on it, stock compression is 9:1 but with the milage it might be 8.5:1, better to turbo, right lol.
Not sure what you mean by brand, but if its the safc, its just the apexi one.
so far Ive only spent around $500 for everything! That is what is nice about a junkyard turbo setup lol.
As funny as it seems, I welded the turbo to the stock manifold, because I am impatient and didnt want to wait for one to be made. I also wanted to do this as cheap as possible, but I definately did not make it look like that. you'll see just as soon as I can post these damn pics!

haha damn i guess its gonna cost me more than 500 now
even my cheap, remote mount turbo setup on my aw11 (which is currently being stopped due to another car arriving, long story) was going to be more than that..... doing it cheap/right I was:
balanced supra injectors - $0 (though traded for some aw11 sideskirts worth aroun $50)
Turbo - $50 (JDM CT20A from a 2tgte)
IC - $15 (JY, have a few to choose from)
IC Piping (universal from ebay) - $70
4/2/1 header - free (came with the car)
ae101 4agze LB - free (came with the car, though no longer available as it's in a different car now)
MS1 V3.0 - $200 (guesstimate price as it was a gift then I built it)
Relay board - $40 (bought from friend)
Wiring - $50 or so....
External 38mm WG - $50 (ebay special)
However -- I also had about 5 hours or so on wiring the MS, had the EDIS wheel attached/balanced for free by a friend, spent several hours on a 90* throttle body and throttle cable bracketry (required for the turbo setup) and it needed the exhaust piping to be done (estimated around $300.... which is what stopped the project as that quote was way too high for the small amount of work needing done.... that shop closed).
Keep in mind that was for an intake-side mounted turbo..... (small turbo, would have had a tiny bit of lag but not much)
