HELP!! Do all ecu's interchange on 6th gens?

Well, I thought I screwed up the Map sensor in my car... but turns out the ecu fried. I really need to know what years I can interchange the ecu into my 92 corolla or if it even matters. I got to go to the junk yard tomorrow, so if somebody can help me that would be awesome!

Thanks

No, different engine means different ECU. And even with the same engine type there can be some slight differences over the years. Best is to find a car from the same year with the same engine

It would help if we know what engine you are running

And now you know that MAP sensors are to be left alone

there should be a number on the ECU, I would just double check that that number is the same and you'll be good.

you'll have to find one specifically for a 90-91 4afe.....

88-89 4afe's had their own thing going on.... 88-89 4af's had no efi.... 90-91 match, but 92 is the odd year... Japan changed their corollas in 1992 but the body didn't in the US (hence why there is no 1992 ae92 gts but there are 1992 ae92's).... however, I'm sure the electrical did change in them here and there, and I would assume the ecu is one of the changes.

Ecu

The year doesn't matter so much it is the model number on the take inside the back edge of the driver's door or posted on the door jamb. It should be AE92LG- DWK975 (made up numbers) - but you'll want to match those of your car to the one you are pulling the ecu from. Each model is different based upon transmission type, emission type (CA or Fed) etc. It should be easy enough to find one for around $30

this should be simple to find.... open the hood and look at the catalyst sticker.... CA or Fed.... or just look to see if the 4afe under the hood has an egr system.....

that being said, year does matter as the 88-89's have different electronics..... but good try.

All Year's are not created equal

I'll stick with what I said - it is not dependent upon model year - while '88 was the first year of production you probably do have some differences in electronic components from the '89, but if you get the model number off the door - mine is AE92L-AWMDKA - you are going to have the same components. I've got a '91 Wagon, made in Japan, but for parts like an ignition wire set it is what all the '92's have. Production date in a model year makes a difference. US made cars (by New United Manufacturing) have a totally different vin, but the model no. can still be the same. What I found is that by matching that 11 digit number, all the components, emissions (CA) and configuration (5 spd) were the same.

I'm going to guess you haven't been to many junkyards and/or looked at the sticker that they started using in 1990 and later on these cars...... the information 1/2 the time is missing.

Best bet is to go off of the number on the ECU.... however, if you have a 90 or a 91... an 88 or 89 ecu won't work. And by 90-91 I mean catalyst year of 90-91.....

if the number matches, you're fine.
