So.... once again it'll be going under the mechanical knife.....
6 years ago or so it blew the HG in the 4afe.... did a smallport 4age swap.
That engine wasn't in too great of shape -- when I got it, there was a flexplate and the original filter on it -- meaning it was in an auto and the engine wasn't well taken care of. Had sludged oil to boot. Burned oil like crazy, but the company closed before I could get the engine warrantied. Dumped oil through it for a looong time.
In October it finally threw a rod.
Built a 7age -- unfortunately the only 7a block I could find had 200K miles and nobody in town can turn a crank -- took a risk and built it anyways. 50 miles after being built and installed it spun a bearing (just needs a crank and new bearings now.... which is fine, it's on the engine stand awaiting to go into an aw11).
So, pulled that and ordered another smallport 4age, as we NEEDED 2 FWD cars for the upcoming snow (in December).
Motor was delivered and... uh oh.... flexplate and original beat up Toyota filter..... pulled the valve covers.... yep.... massive sludge (worse than the last motor). Car now has about 1200 miles on it since and has gone through about a quart and a half of 20/50.....
Has a warranty.... they send a new motor for the warranty (old new motor still in the car but will start to pull it today).... looks GREAT... has a flywheel/clutch/pp, RS*R header, oil filter sandwich adapter for pressure gauge and temp sensor, not a speck of sludge!
start looking deeper.... uh oh.... rust in the intake and exhaust ports of #2..... uh oh.... intake valves both stuck 100% open on #3.....
so... yesterday I got the valves unstuck and all seems ok except for the rust..... I spoke with the company and they pretty much think the engine is 100% fine and I should install it.... I talked them into letting me buy a labor warranty for $20.... so, if this motor is bad after install I'll get a $300 labor check and another engine.....
So... that'll be it's 5th engine.....

yep, rs*r header was bolted on..... as you see it above is how it was sent to me (except a few things moved around).
motor/trans in the car is out.... I actually timed myself because at one point I told someone I can pull an aw11 motor/trans (in running condition) in less than 2 hours..... the ae92 is a little easier to get to some of the stuff due to acces, but the aw11's motors come out easier (go down).
I drove the car home from work 30+ miles.... to give you an idea of what I started with....
92 minutes for the motor/trans to be on the ground, 56 minutes to strip the motor down (only the water pump, oil pan, valve covers, timing gears/oil pump, and oil filter are still attached to the motor....). This time includes fighting with finding tools (especially a 12mm socket.....) and assembling/disassembling the hoist and putting everything away.
Tomorrow I will either prep the new motor to go in or I will fill the s/c mr2 up with coolant and tires with air, throw a battery in and go for a quick drive. See if I can break the C series on the first drive

Thanks..... as said above, all it needs is coolant, a battery, and some air in the tires.
However I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the IC yet.... I've toyed with a trunk mount (who needs 2 trunks in 3 MR2's? ), but still am not sure.... I have a few other IC's lying around, but my guess is I'll end up finding or making a better rear facing hood scoop (don't like the one a PO put on when they removed mine ) and using the old engine lid with a 10" puller fan over the IC.

and go back to the oddity of the poorly designed flip up headlights that pivit at the highest point possible? Then after time the arms that hold them up start to get loose and you get a bouncy light?
No thanks
the rediculous part about the lights is that I haven't touched that part of the overal project in years :/

haha.. true, you did that a couple of years ago and it still looks the same.
I've only driven the sc mr2 a few miles.... I need to look into some things (loose steering and brake light is on....)... however, that car is MUCH faster than it was with the E series and 101 motor.... even took another MR2 friend for a ride who had even driven it before and he agreed it's much faster..... he believes that short run vs. short run (ie top speed his is faster) that it's considerably faster than his 88 celica alltrac with 10psi and a newly rebuilt ct26..... not sure about the axles as I did a hard shift into 2nd and only got a little bit of clutch then tire spin..... almost afraid to drive the car.....
the wife's MR2.... how did I "convince" her to drive it? I gave it to her for graduation before we got married..... she loves that car.... previously she was driving a 94 ford escort..... she gets compliments (and people coming into her work to do so) all the time on the car, and has seen tons of people just taking random photos of it at her work.....

and yea i def know the feeling getting scared... these cars shouldn't be doing the kind of stuff we do... it's a bit scarey.
last night i went out to my local mall's parking lot and hit all my cutoff switches(lights andgauges) and had a little blind parkinglot fun!!! it was pretty awesome especially the part when security drove buy without seeing me!!!
