Okay first off, i know this might sound stupid, but i really need to know, and would appreciate any input or tips thanks.
I have a 1990 corolla, with a 1.6l 4A-FE, trashed motor, and i am looking at doing a swap, i really need the car going, so i was looking at a 4A-GE, i found a really nice one with no transmission or ecu, and well what i am getting at is, could i put a 4A-GE into my car, and use the transmission that was on the 4A-FE and/or ECU with minimal problems?

(my old transmission was rebuilt)
really appreciate any tips, thank you.
yeah, the engine will fit fine, the GT-S came with one stock
transmission = yes
ECU = no, not easily.
the easiest way is to take the ECU and the wiring harness and swap it in with it.

actually it's very easy to run the 4afe ecu on a 4age....
however, the hard part is finding the correct distributor...... I have one, but it's in my car (4age on 4afe ecu) and haven't seen one other like it..... my guess is that it might be from a 4ace......
that all being said, you will need to have the 4afe ignitor mounted on a heatsink in a dry location, extend some wiring, and use the 4age injectors...
this is if you use a late model 16V smallport 4age.... bigports have more stuff to mess with and will be much more problematic.
if you really need the car going, your best bet is another 4afe.

well the ECU isn't really a big factor right now, i can get a hold of a 4A-GE ECU pretty easily, i was really more concerned about the mounting of the motor in the engine bay, and whether or not the 4A-FE transmission will bolt up to the 4A-GE with no problem.
Oh and the wiring harness, can i use the original?
your transmission will fit any engine with an A as the second character.
the harness should match the engine.
they should all be fairly reliable.
you'll have to get headers to match the engine in most cases. headers are head specific, so 4age needs 4age headers, 4afe, 5afe, 7afe should all use the same headers.

depends on how you do the setup and the condition of the engine

yes and no.... all 4age headers/manifolds fit all 4age's. The piping output of the header is in a different location than a 4/7afe car... so, you'll need new exhaust as well.
you can use a 7afe header on a 4afe, but you can't put a 4afe header on a 7afe (7a block is a 1.8L vs the 1.6, and has an 18mm deck heigh difference..... it won't clear).
5afe.... I wouldn't use this, but it's up to you.
