You just hit the nail on the head. 99% of it's mental. The other 1% is an actual slight performance increase.
Here's how it breaks down in real terms:
- Your car will sound ricey. No ifs ands or buts. It's a Corolla, people won't think it's fast.
- You would get
slightly better gas mileage if you drove the same as you did before. Most people get a little heavier with the right foot when they install these due to aforementioned manly rumble. Adn this is a performance mod, right? So we might as well drive it like we stole it.
- You will be able to accelerate a little bit faster. But the sound will embarass you.
- You have an automatic. End of story. Don't get an aftermarket intake.
- A K&N drop-in filter replacement is fine. They are nice because they can be reused and you can convince yourself that it gave you more power but the sound will still be fine.
