Gen6 New Intake on 91 Corolla Sedan?

So, a quick and remarkably amateur question ...

Is it worth my while to put a new (aftermarket) air intake/filter into a 91 Corolla DX Sedan? I'm not trying to rice it out or anything, it's a daily driver, but I switched from a 6cyl Chrysler T&C to the Corolla and I'm just not getting used to the fact that I have to drive such a painfully slow car. I wouldn't complain about better gas mileage either. But the question is, how much of a difference would such a modification really make in my car? Because if all it does is make revvy noises that doesn't really do much for me.

Input? I'm sure you guys have all done this, so if you've seen any HP/MPG gains on yours let me know ...

It won't make much of a difference according to a regular dyno. The butt dyno will show huge gains though.

It's an auto. It'll be slow no matter how you drive it.

Took me a minute to go to urban-dictionary and find out what a butt dyno is :-( needless to say I'm not a ridiculously experienced car jockey.

Could the butt dynos readings be affected by the manly rumbly noises of a new intake? This seems to be a common enough symptom. I'd actually like the car to be a fit faster, not just sound faster.

You just hit the nail on the head. 99% of it's mental. The other 1% is an actual slight performance increase.

Here's how it breaks down in real terms:

- Your car will sound ricey. No ifs ands or buts. It's a Corolla, people won't think it's fast.

- You would get slightly better gas mileage if you drove the same as you did before. Most people get a little heavier with the right foot when they install these due to aforementioned manly rumble. Adn this is a performance mod, right? So we might as well drive it like we stole it.

- You will be able to accelerate a little bit faster. But the sound will embarass you.

- You have an automatic. End of story. Don't get an aftermarket intake.

- A K&N drop-in filter replacement is fine. They are nice because they can be reused and you can convince yourself that it gave you more power but the sound will still be fine.
