A131L Interchangability

Does anyone know if an A131L (3spd 15 pan bolt) from a later model corolla would fit the AE92? For example, I found one for 200$ from a wrecked car with 73K but the car is an 01 Corolla. I read that from 84-02, Corollas used the A131L and this one I looked at was an A131L. I just don't know if things were changed that I might need to be aware of?

There's a high possibility that the later models are electronically controlled while the earlier ones are not. I made this mistake with a later model 4 speed.

I don't think they would change a transmission from hydromechanically controlled to
electronically controlled without changing the model name (A131L). According to Wikipedia,
the A131L was used in corollas from 1984-2002 (three speed trannies). Therefore, I would guess
that a donor 2001 corolla would be compatible if it's a 3-speed.

It's not electronically controlled because if I remember right an E at the end of transmission Model means electronically controlled. There is no A131E, just A131L.

why wouldn't you upgrade to the 4 speed if you're replacing it anyway?

That's what I originally intended. However, find a 4spd is alot harder than finding a 3spd since after 1992, the 4spd went electronically controlled. The 93+ Corollas have the A245E. The 88-92 A240E is harder to find, and when I do find it, it's alot more than a A131L.

I just wanted to make sure that even if the A131L was still the same transmission that a few things hadn't changed but I guess it will be ok?

it seems fishy to me... the 98-02 corollas have 1ZZ engines. I'm pretty sure that the the bell housing would be different. you might be able to swap bell housings with your old one though...

Did you ever find out if the new a131l will swap into the older Corolla? I need to swap mine but only newer ones are available.

Gen6 A131L Auto 3spd Question

I am also looking for an A131L 3spd Automatic - for my 1992 DX Coupe (4A-FE)

Need to know also if later year models up to 2001 with A131 would work in a 1992 ???

Sunday I was driving it around 60mph, and all of a sudden, a big wining sound then BAM! BAM! BAM! ....the transfer case / differential came apart inside, felt like I slammed on the brakes.

I've heard if this happens I need a new transmission, it's too hard / expensive to repair the transfer / axle gears?
