Sup. I'm Jake. From STL. I just bought a 91 SR5 coupe, 5spd, sunroof, cruise, a/c, pwr mirrors, heated seat, 1.6L, for $400. Runs like a top, the day after I got plates on it (yesterday) I ran it to K.C. MO and back again. 75mph both ways no prob. Its a fixer. got it cheap cause the paint is faded and the clear is almost gone and the right front is smashed. Have a fender, headlight, parking light, and grill insert coming from ebay. was thinkin if anyone is interested in watchin this thread I'll post pics of the rebuild. the interior is great!! theres one small crack in the dash and thats it. So pics will be up soon before I do anything and more will follow as parts come in. I'm hoping to have the front repaired and ready for paint by the time its warm enough to paint in the garage. So watch if you want I'm bringing this one back to cool school!
so does anyone know if 17x7 wheels with 40mm offset will fit this car. I bought em but they're not here yet. waiting to buy tires till i test fit unless someone knows.
these are the wheels I bought.

i realize this. the tires I'm lookin at are 205/40/17... I bought the wheels cause they were cheap enough to resell if need be but they're so neat! I didn't look at tire rack till after I paid. oops.

I have 205/45 r16's and they JUST clear the suspension. You definitely don't want 40 offset either, more like 38 to pull it away from the rear suspension a bit. Mine are a TIGHT fit. Rubbed off the rim protector from the inside of the rear tires... to the top it's got a bit more room but very little as well, close enough it rubs dirt off the tire when it passes the spring plate.
Yokohama S.drives are available at the Tire Rack in 195/40-17 for just $89 each. If the tire still rubs the strut, you might need a thin spacer, maybe 3mm, but you shouldn't track the car if you don't have enough thread engagement on the lugnuts if you go the spacer route. I still think 16s are a better choice. Bigger is not always better unless you are strictly going for looks.

I agree, if you get the 195s they'll actually be smaller than freakinboxes setup so they'll fit.
you still might need spacers for the rears though with the +40 offset.
and yes, they'll be heavy as crap and they'll slow your car down. Even my really light 15s slowed my car down.

well the wheels were ordered from reactionauto on ebay. the guy told me he could only find two wheels and might have to refund my money. So i looked at his other auctions to see if we could work something out. He relisted my wheels for twice as much. still no refund!! damn. thankfully the tires i ordered will fit my wifes ION redline so 16's will prob be the choice. The main reason I went with those wheels was winning the auction at $56 for the wheels and $125 for the shipping but I got robbed. The fender and head light went out saturday so pics of bodywork will be coming. but thanks for all the help.

pics are coming as soon as the fender and headlight work begin. I used a tutorial from another thread and built a new rear deck and put in 6x9s in. Looks stock. pics will be up tonight. And is 14.5 lbs a heavy wheel? found a few styles of 15x6 with a 40 offset. help me decide.
Black and chrome are 15.4 lbs +38 offset. 15x7
flat black are 14.8 lbs +40 offset. 15x6.5
Gold are 14.5 lbs +40 offset. 15x6.5
silver are 14.5 lbs +40 offset 14x6

I followed directions from a post titled "how to put 6x9s in your back deck. it works! I found it helps alot to cut the curved edge near the glass on a 45 degree angle. And I did some bartering and ebaying and came up with new toys.
the 6x9s are 500watt each eight way PYLE brand from big city buy on ebay. $39 for the set. The 10" orion XTR 2s are from my brother and the 1000watt Alpine V12 4 channel is from my Sis. Thanks guys! thinking of making a false wall behind the flip down rear seats. the subs are rated for "open air" so i'll still have nearly all of my trunk space. So what do you think?

I thought about 6x9s on the back lid of the GTS since it comes with the stupid speakers with the built in brackets to hold the speaker covers, I ended up with Power Acoustiks 5.25s which just happen to hold the speakers in place properly so I never attempted it again.
