Mixed imformation got my mind boggling!

Alright, I have a ae92 sr5 89'
I blew the motor.

Here is the question,
What motors can i swap into it, Yes i hear alot of different things but heres the dilemma.
I don't have a garage, but I can access one for a short time. I need a motor that WILL line up to the stock motor mounts and a tranny. Ill be switching it from auto to manual, but thats the easy part. The challenge for me is finding the right information on what motor i need.

By the way im looking for the best power i can get. Or a motor that has high potential for power increases!

considering you have a carb motor things aren't as straight-forward, if you want more power. You have a few options:

1) buy a gts parts car (crashed or something) as you should use the EFI tank/pump and would have any/all parts to swap over
2) buy the efi parts separately and/or set the car up on a fuel cell
3) build a 4ag (carbed 4age)
4) 7af with high compression pistons

Option 3 would actually be the easiest if you want to use a G head... HOWEVER, it will be the most expensive, becuase you'll have to source the correct manifold carbs, and ignition setup (as nothing you have stock will work).

Option 4 would be the easiest overall... if you were to find some high compression pistons and rebuild the 7afe block you should see an increase in power, torque, and you can use the stock head/sensors/wiring. The only thing that may not work with what you have now is the carb tuning (not a big deal) and the middle, lower trans mount (not a big deal).

Motor for the most power increase would be to switch the car to EFI and go with a 4agze or 4agze converted turbo for a setup that will bolt into your chasis with very little modification to mounts (nothing chasis side would need modification).

putting in a rebuilt 4af is obviously the easiest for you as it fits everything in there already.

Unless like said above you can get a gts parts car that runs.

The 4age's (16v and 20v) will fit the mounts and I think the 5 speed trannys from the 20v's fit no problem. 4agze will also fit if you want supercharged but the wiring can be a bitch unless you get an uncut harness from japan from an ae92 that had one. 7afe, 4afe and 4af.

But as said above you will need the efi set up, As far as we have figured on here is that the cars that had the 4af didn't have baffles in the tank, then again it could be another myth.

if someone is telling you otherwise than what was said then they don't know what they're doing.
