AE95 questions.....

Hey, I just picked up a '93 AE95 Corolla All-trac wagon (yes, it's a '93), and I've got a few questions. Does anyone else here have one? Also, it's got a vibration that seems to be rear driveline related...is there a swappable driveshaft from another model that fits, and that has replaceable u-joints?
My last question: will a 3s alltrac engine/transaxle physically fit into an ae95 engine bay; more specifically, has anyone seen it done? Thanks.

Yeah, there's a few guys here with them... look around the first couple of pages as they've been a hot item lately.

And no, just because its an ALLTRAC doesn't mean that a 3SGE/GTE engine will drop right in, in order to put one in you would have to go through quite a bit of custom work. Never seen it done, but I have seen a 4AGZE AE95 wagon.

Thanks Ren... I realize the relation is name-only, I was wondering if it'll actually fit in the hole since it's already got the alltrac drivetrain in it. After reading up on some ae92 threads, my guess is that it will actually fit - albeit with some elbow grease - but the possibility is there.

Any specific reason? I just don't see any logical reason why it would need to be changed...

simple : the rear final drive ratio is not the same between the rear differential of the ST185 and the one of the AE95

so, if you want to have all your wheels turing at teh same speed, if you replace the AE95 transmission and engine with the ST185 one, you will also need to use the ST185 rear differential AND transfer case

Found the vibration issue. It needs one of the driveshaft pieces replaced.

Thanks...I should have mentioned I'll make one myself though since it's a tough part to find.

the drive shaft is sold as an unit and is very expensive ($ 1600 CDN) if I remember.

You should consider the balance it in a drive-shaft shop or simply replace the u-joint

I would replace the u-joint, but it's the non-replaceable type. I repair and rebuild driveshafts on a regular basis, so as I mentioned, I'm going to make a new one without the rubber insert. I use seamless driveline tubing and straighen it after welding, so no balancing necessary.

I already have to replace a u-joint on my drive shaft. They put a u-joint with a niple.

... but since you know what to do ... I just wanted to inform that it is possible. It cost about $ 100

Thanks...so was yours the type that has no clips to hold it? Just looking at mine, the edges of the hole are swaged in to hold it in place. Hmm.

I must admit that I do not remember how they did (that's 6 years since that and I do soooo much work on my 2 Landcruisers since... that my memory fails !!)...

so I think they were welded (tack) the new u-joint on the d-shaft.

Pictures can help... send me you email by PM and I send you pics soon...
