Brake light switch

Ok this has me stumped, once in a while I will lose +power to the brake light switch. No brake lights come on at the back and cant shift out of gear(auto) I wait abit then they start working as normal. Is there a common junction plug(other than the fuse block which looks good) for the wires? Or could it be a ground which works for both the lights and solenoid plunger?
Thanks. oh its a 90 corolla 1.6

I'm a bit confused. the brake switch controls both the brake lights and the locking mechanism on the automatic shifter. I would just replace the switch (located in the pedal) and you should be fine.

exactly what I did when my brake lights stopped working. Only problem with the manual cars is you have no way of knowing until you see the reflection on a window or someone behind you tells you lol.

I carry a telescoping light changing pole I bought at Lowe's in the trunk. It's lightweight,
and fits straight across the trunk when collapsed. Expanded it reaches 15ft. You can
poke the brake pedal while standing behind the car. Actually, it got left in the trunk by
accident during a move because I didn't need it at the new location, and found that use
for it by luck one day.
