Unhappy distribtor rebuild help

Hi folks, I have a 89 corolla wagon, carbureted engine, with almost 200k miles. The distributor is leaking oil past the internal oil seals, so the oil is ending up inside the distributor. I located a seal rebuild kit at KBOX engineering, but in order to do the rebuild it would appear that I need to remove the shaft pin that holds the drive piece on the end of the shaft. How do I get the distributor apart? I have tried to use a drift and press the pin out, rather than hammer on it and spread out the end of the pin, but it won't budge. Alternatively, is there a reliable source for a rebuilt distributor?

If you can't remove the pin, try taking it to a machine shop or engine rebuilding shop. They usually have ways to remove stuff like that.

the pin is tapered, or I know for sure larger on one end. Make sure you aren't trying to push the larger end through

I used a Kbox kit on my 3S distributor last year. I used a bench vise to press it out. They are stuck in there pretty damned hard.

its not tapered.. I made my own tool from a bicycle chain breaker to push the pin out and back in

Yep, one end has beveled edges but the diameter doesn't change. It's just wedged in there super tight and is a very hard piece of metal.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try the bicycle chain tool. It's good to know that it is removable, now I feel that I can go after it with a little more confidence.

This is interesting.....

on a 4age dizzy I'm able to get the pin out.... but an FE style dizzy (3 I had) I couldn't press nor drill (tried 8 different types of bits) the pins out..... I was trying to make a custom 20V dizzy to work with FE or GE electronics but got stuck there....

good luck getting it out. Try a machine shop....
