Hey i was thinking about getting a glasspack cherry bomb, yeah i know its nowhere near as good as replacing the muffler or whole exhaust... but im tired of my ae92 sedan having this annoying putt putt putt sound.
1) im not gonna do anything under the hood, except maybe change to a K&N air filter and new spark plugs
2) im not looking to be a poser with a fart can, i just want a better sound.
3) im going to have it installed by a professional, quoted 35-40 dollars
so is it worth it, im not trying to be the guy that revs his car at the stop light, i just want some sound.
I'd vote against it. Before I'd do that, I'd throw on a conical air filter and short ram intake. Makes it louder and a bit throatier(sp?) than stock. Plus if you mock up your own it'll be roughly the same price
I really didn't want to add an intake due to cost issues, i love my 'rolla, but im trying to save for an rsx, its my commuter car not my race car
so the air filter is a given, but my dad helps me with most projects and he'll prob say "why???" even bother with intake. so id really be up the creek with just my own knowledge and what ever i can google, as far as installation.
Take the muffler off and try that out. Hell maybe even find a rusted portion of pipe and punch a hole in it. But be careful because If you punch a hole and you hate it, it will cost you money to fix it.
Honestly, I have an exhaust leak that gives my car a throaty sound coming from under the car, and it isn't half bad. lol
You can strip these cars with just a 10 and a 12mm socket!
the cost is just about the same and you can pick up piping at practically any hardware store and I did mine after having my car a week and practically knowing shit when it came to doing anything and was done in 40 minutes. It was two little pipes, a coupler, a a filter, thats all.
Thanks, but my motor is old, its not in bad condition but its no young kitten either. I wouldn't mind doing it if i disassembled the engine and cleaned everything, but like i said before its my commuter car.
i was given my 'rolla from my grandma and when i got it, it looked like crap, now im not embarrassed to drive it because of the "new face" i put on it.
I guess in reality im just trying to give this old lady a face lift without actually giving her new organs LOL.
i do want to build a race car one day, but i want to do it with something newer and something that they build more parts for. im 18 i still got time to be reckless haha.
thanx any way rob
Some degreaser can work wonders. Mine isn't young either, but I figured just replacing the airfilter box and a bit of piping couldn't hurt.
I would like something newer as well, but I still like my go-cart even if right now its not exactly drivable due to my lowering not going very smoothly.... :/
and being 17, prospects on buying another car aren't too bright right now lol

You forgot the 14mm and 17mm
Hell if it's just a commuter car go for it and see what you think, cherry bombs are cheap, you can always rip it out if you don't like it.
true. I think I used the 14 once when replacing the radiator and the 17 and 19 came in handy for the suspension. So maybe I exagerated a bit, you'll need 5 sockets

they wont last but maybe a year or less. specialy iffin' you down shift. but at ten bucks a piece. and then having them pro installed, just clamp it....
spend the bucks get a quality free flow w/ the sound you want. then upgrade your air intake. you dont have to pay 40 or more for an after market air intake system if you dont care 'bout looks. most can be done with dryer ducting and clamps from your hardware store fer around 10-15 bucks. the metal flex ducting comes in different sizes. its stiff enough to where it wont sag and not totaly air tight so it lets the water seep out before it gets to your filter. upgrading the filter reqiures buying or building a box. i've made 'em outta sheet metal and muffler sealant. dual snorkles and boxes for a 454ci 30 bucks.
what goes in, must come out/what goes out, must come in. but it all gets choked down via the inards in the motor anyway if you dont mod there. but if you like the sound of playing cards on your spokes......
dont get me wrong. the sound of a hot exhaust makes me giddy. you'll just be replacing them at the drop of a hat.
just another opinion.........which is what you wanted
ps; RobMilkshakes....i like your attitude!!!!!! "degreaser can"....

I have a glasspack on my Impala. It was great til all the glass blew out. So i had to do other things to the exhaust to make it sound better. It sounds great at WOT. They are great for the price. But dont forget Cherry Bomb corp now makes other mufflers. So you have other options at good prices. But its up to you and your cash flow.
I respect the idea, and it's a lot nicer to have a nice sound...but a glasspack cherry bomb is not the answer.
The glasspack will blow out eventually. Also, in most places they are actually completely illegal and you WILL get tickets if a cop looks at it - possibly an impound.
My suggested solution:
Cherry Bomb 'Turbo' - it's a vortex type muffler that adds exactly what you want - a nice throaty deep sound without the possible illegality and muffler damage. It is also the same as a stock in profile, and won't put a huge fartcan on the back of your car. They sound really nice! They're like $5 more than the glasspack from Cherry Bomb

yeah i agree i'll at least do that much, not to bad.
Should i buy one on ebay?? or is there another legit place?
Well the ones on ebay are pretty much kits put together for you, but your local parts stores pep boys, autozone etc should probably carry spectre piping(shinny pipe), You'll just aneed a 30 degree elbow and a piece of straight to locate the filter where the stock box was. Or, you can use flexible piping from a hardware store(cheaper, and less obvious) and two metal clamps. You would probably have to get a small section of pipe though with that set up for a hole for the sensor.
