91 Corolla DX Wagon speaker question...

May sound like a dumb question but are there supposed to be rear speakers in this beast? I know the all-trac has the top-mount speakers i nthe cargo area but I can't seem to find them in my bare-bones model DX wagon. When installing an aftermkt head unit last night the rear speaker wiring is there so I hooked it up regardless... hmmm. I checked in the rear door panels and in the cargo area and didnt see anything resembling a spkr grill.

AE92

I think the issue is the same with the sedan AE92s like mine. The wiring for rear speakers are there. However, DX models had rear dashes without speaker grilles while LE's had rear dashes with speaker grilles (and speakers).

So in your case, the cover where a speaker grille would be if it had speakers from factory is replace by another cover that doesn't have the grille and hole and what not.

So the stock wiring DOES run all the way back to where they are supposed to be? I would like to get something back there but don't want to go around ripping stuff out unless I know its there. I guess that's the only way I can know for sure.
I could also run wires back to the cargo area...but then again I don't want to spend too much time and money on something I bought for $700. hahaha

Thanks.

I'm not to sure myself if there is a factory wire there. If it is, it may not be connected to the wires up in front at the head unit either, like om my sedan. Didn't really feel like messing with those skinny, 21 year old wires that did jackshit, so I ran new wires and hidden it well.

I used to have small home speakers on the floor behind the front seats at one point. Wires everywhere.

Thanks SCT. Sounds good.
I think I'll wait a bit until I get the more important stuff on this car worked out. Then I'll probably end up running new wires all the way to the head unit. I just don't like the way it sounds like a pick-up w/only 2 spkrs.

The Wires are there because different models of the same trim level do have the rear speakers. they pre-run the wires in all of them to save the hassle of picking out which ones have what. i also know this because my DX corolla has speakers and grill in the rear dash. not just the LE's and what not..problem is you just have to find out where they put the rear speakers from factory and thats where your wires are..
