all show no go, literally!

Guys i need your help, something fishy is going on. Ok so for the past 3 weeks my car has been loosing its acceleration ( for lack of a better term not going anywhere when i hit the gas), this usually happens when im leaving school. ill be at a stop (1-3 minutes lots of people trying to leave) and finally when its my turn to go ahead my car wont budge. ill press on the gas and nothing. i first made sure i hadn't hit the gear into neutral, nope it was in drive. so i put the car in park turned it off and turned it back on again then everything worked. so far this has happened 3 times, once when i was on a hill (at a stop) and i rolled back down almost smacking into the car behind me.
- why is this happening?!! what can i do? does any1 have any ideas plz.

The car engine revs up but the car just will not move at times? Since it sounds like you have an auto trans, have you checked the fluid level? Is there a burning oil like smell? Maybe because you turn it on then off for the car to move, maybe there is some electric component to the trans I am not familiar with. At least start with checking your fluid levels.

yeah i do have an automatic but the car wont even rev its almost as if the car turns off ( to be honest i might be confusing no acceleration with car shutting off, either way car wont move when i press on the gas ). i will go get it checked out this weekend by a professional. but till then ill check the fluid levels. and no there is no burning smell.
-thnx for the reply

Start with the usual, do a tune up (air filter, spark plugs, cap and rotor, maybe even wires) that could solve a lot of the problem, if not your catalytic converter could be plugged up and may need to be replaced.
